Court Interpreting in Focus at Georgia’s COCI Orientation Workshop

The Georgia Standing Committee on Court Interpreters (COCI )and the Administrative Office of the Courts conducted a successful, interactive 2-day COCI Orientation Workshop on May 8-9. The 30 attendees—20 spoken language interpreters and 10 American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters—received a good introduction to legal interpreting.

Participants engaged in sessions covering interpreter ethics, Georgia court proceedings, sight and simultaneous translation, and interactive role play. Breakout sessions allowed interpreters to delve deeper into certification pathways, legal terminology, and ethical dilemmas specific to their language modalities. The workshop wrapped up with practical resources and tools to support continued growth and preparation for the certification process.
