In Atkinson County, Recovery from Hurricane Helene is Ongoing

Hurricane Helene raked across Georgia towards the end of September, leaving many communities in disrepair. Much of the damage remains at the end of October as Courts such as Atkinson County work to get court operations back to normal.

From Chief Judge Clayton Tomlinson we received this email update:

“The other 4 courthouses are now up an running… however the effects of the hurricane still weigh heavy on our citizens.   More houses than not have some sort of damage. And, families are displaced or living in the undamaged portion of their home.  I can not bring myself to demand the jury or party to appear at court.  Citizens paychecks will be short due to lost work hours.  So many people everyday are still involved with cleanup and temporary repairs.  GOD is good, the citizens of the Alapaha Circuit are resilient, and despair is being overcome with the Hope provided by people helping people.   I thank God for his love being shown through the kindness of people.”

Also, from Cynthia G. Dillingham, Clerk of Superior and Juvenile Court of Atkinson, we received the letter below.
